Reconstruction of Aegviidu Recreational Depot

The Aegviidu Recreational Depot was opened in Estonia’s hiking capital on 11 June. This 150-year-old building, with its beautiful arched windows, has gained a new lease on life: catering for people’s health and recreation needs rather than the needs of locomotives. The project for the reconstruction of the heritage-listed building was drafted by Sirkel & Mall. The three floors of the building are home to an information point for sports and hiking enthusiasts, cloakrooms and store rooms (including for equipment for hire), showers (with a sauna), a seminar room and the Aegviidu service point of Anija Municipal Government.

The building’s walls are made from historic red brick, while its new roof rests on sturdy glulam beams. It is the perfect place to set off from on a hike, and to return to afterwards.
