Friday 23 October saw the official opening of the long-awaited new sports centre on the shores of Lake Arbi by Elva Gymnasium. What makes the building special is the 60-metre running track in its 2nd-floor gallery, which traverses the full length of the complex and links it to the school building. The part projecting out towards the lake rests on an understated V-shaped support post.
The 4000 m² centre, which is very much at home among the Elva pines, features areas for ball games, a running arena, a two-storey gym, an indoor long-jump track and more, providing plenty of opportunities for children and adults alike to exercise and do sports. During the official opening, Madis Šumanov, the director of sports in Elva municipality, said: “There might be both winners and losers in sport itself, but the completion of this sports centre is a win for everyone!” We hope everyone in Elva enjoys using it.
