The former Tallinn Cassette Tape Factory is now home to Larsen\u2019s retro Stereo House halls of residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The building is situated at Heli tn 8 (previously known as Lohu tn 12). The general architectural concept was to reconstruct the four-storey factory as a hostel and halls of residence, with the layout taking into account the requirements set for both, as well as new needs.
The basic shape of the building was to be retained, with the storm water system and other internal utilities updated to ensure a better indoor climate. The visual solution for the complex was based on the existing building and the external architecture of the surrounding structures. The main colours used in the reconstruction are black and white. The reinforced concrete wall panels of different shapes and sizes and its small-block walls were to be insulated and plastered following the slope of the existing panels. The building has a total of 94 rooms with their own WC, bathroom and kitchenette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are two stairwells, the corridors linking which provide access to the residents\u2019 rooms. Entrances to the building are found on its north-eastern and north-western sides. The 1st floor on the north-eastern side is home to the building\u2019s communal spaces (a lounge, gym, games room and WC) and a technical room (with a boiler, water meters and the electricity switchboard). A laundry was planned for the southern corner of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
