At the heart of this concept is the creation of an open and playful street space in front of the building which would directly link it to the store space on the 2nd floor and provide opportunities for both fun and relaxation. This would transform the area into a pleasant part of urban space which could be used as much more than just an entrance to the store. Creating an exciting link between streets and public space draws people in while drawing attention to itself.
The layout of the building is straightforward and functional, following the standard Lidl design. The difference here is in the raising of the ground level up to that of the store, generating direct access from the other level as well, increasing the sense of openness and boosting the store’s visibility. The hillock, functioning as a public space, brings the store level to street level. Being blue, the hillock is very much a feature of urban space whilst flirting with the Lidl colour scheme, subtly bringing the store’s identity into street space.
