Date:

2009

Client:

University of Tartu

Project type:

Reconstruction

Project details

This project involved the reconstruction and extension of the main building of Tartu Observatory at Observatooriumi 1 in Tõravere in Nõo municipality in Tartu County. We provided plans for the renovation of the unreconstructed main building’s facade and for an extension measuring ca 710 m2. We resolved the access issues faced by people with disabilities in moving between levels in different parts of the complex. We also provided the optimal and most user-friendly solution for working rooms for the observatory’s staff.

The project included the reconstruction of outdated technology and the modernisation of the main building’s layout. The latter was most closely informed by the client’s brief and the special nature of planning on the property.

Technical data:

  • Number of storeys: 6 (the three highest of which are the observatory’s tower)
  • Closed net area: 2904.7 m²
Of which total area designed: 755.3 m²
