Built in 1983, Annelinna Gymnasium is the biggest school in Tartu. Now, 37 years later, it has been given a total makeover. Everything has changed, from its layout – with it now featuring new classrooms and communal areas – to the sports facilities on its grounds.
Modern systems guarantee more efficient heating and more effective ventilation, while the new-look interior makes the school a more enjoyable place to be for its students, creating a pleasant learning environment.
Reconstruction of an old building places limitations on the design of technical systems, since the norms and requirements of schools are very different today from what they were when this school was originally built. This is why fitting technical systems into narrow existing spaces is difficult and requires both modelling and testing. Using BIM convinced us that the technical systems could be installed with a minimal loss of space and without them getting in the way of one another.
